Cost Containment<br />

FY <strong>2009</strong> Significant Cost Containment Actions<br />

As part of the annual budget development process, Cecil identifies areas for cost<br />

savings and incorporates these savings into the budget request. In addition,<br />

throughout the year all College staff work to find and implement cost savings that<br />

reduce operating expenses. In FY <strong>2009</strong> Cecil College accumulated $495,360 in<br />

cost savings.<br />

Revised Revenue<br />

1. Elimination of 4 full-time positions $275,000<br />

3. 5% reduction in Supplies and Materials $46,000<br />

4. 15% reduction of Travel and Conferences $46,000<br />

Energy<br />

1. Natural gas – reduced due to forecasted cost $30,000<br />

2. Electric – stabilized costs and savings through Eastern Shore $50,000<br />

of <strong>Maryland</strong> Educational Consortium<br />

Cellular Phones<br />

1. Consolidated all cell phones to shared plans, cancelled three<br />

unused lines and remove push-to-talk feature $15,360<br />
