JDBC API for application writers and the second is the lower-level<br />

JDBC driver API for driver writers.<br />

File APIs — File APIs provide interfaces containing methods <strong>to</strong> manage<br />

file information, access data and catch events from legacy applications,<br />

which usually contain data in flat files. The interface encapsulates many<br />

of the advanced file and shell related functions.<br />

Applications can use file APIs <strong>to</strong> extract particular data elements<br />

from the legacy system. The API will take care of any logic or<br />

arithmetic needed <strong>to</strong> produce the desired data. Without this API,<br />

integration of legacy systems would be a nightmare, as they do not
