Chapter 8
Middleware Technologies
The focus of this chapter
Middleware technologies advance the goals of B2B integration and
enterprise application integration. By integrating disparate systems
throughout an organization, middleware technologies can promote a
zero-latency enterprise strategy where data is exchanged across systems
in real-time; reduce application development time and improve speed to
market; create standardized development methodologies throughout an
organization; facilitate the integration of systems inherited through
mergers or acquisitions; and reduce application maintenance.
In this chapter, we have presented an introduction to all the leading
middleware technologies, including message oriented middleware —
MQSeries, JMS and MSMQ, transaction processing monitors, distributed
components middleware — CORBA, Windows DNA and J2EE. You will
also get an overview of the leading J2EE-based application servers —
BEA's WebLogic and IBM's WebSphere.
