Extensible Markup Language (XML) 173<br />

XML schemas, which are written in XML, define the complete structure<br />

(i.e., data types, elements, child elements, sequence of child elements,<br />

number of child elements, order of elements, attributes associated with<br />

elements, default values of attributes, entities contents and notations,<br />

etc.), content and semantics of XML documents. They provide valid<br />

building blocks for XML documents, support for data types and<br />

namespaces and document their own meaning, usage, and function.<br />

XML schemas are more flexible and powerful than DTDs.<br />

Validation of an XML document involves verifying the document<br />

against an XML schema.<br />
