BizTalk Server The BizTalk Server provides a development and execution environment that integrates loosely coupled, long-running business processes and applications both within and between companies. It acts as a standard gateway for sending and receiving documents across the Internet, as well as providing a range of services including BizTalk Orchestration Service and BizTalk Messaging Service that ensure data integrity, delivery, security and support for the BizTalk Framework and other key document formats. Integration of BizTalk Orchestration Services and BizTalk Messaging Services enables the secured and controlled exchange of documents and messages between trading partners and internal applications by using multiple transport services. BizTalk Messaging Services — The messaging services include sending, receiving, parsing and tracking documents; receipt generation and correlation; and data mapping, integrity and security. BizTalk Orchestration Services — The orchestration services enable the creation and orchestration of business processes that span time, organizations, applications and people. The services include the integration of long-running business processes with the applications that run those business processes. An executable business process file called an XLANG schedule provides the integration. An XLANG schedule is a business process implemented by connecting each step in the process to a technology component or service that executes the step. An XLANG schedule is then run by a service called the XLANG Scheduler Engine, which controls the instantiation, execution, dehydration and rehydration of an XLANG schedule, or multiple instances of one or more schedules.

BizTalk Mapper BizTalk Mapper is a tool for creating maps, which define the correspondence between the records and fields in one specification and the records and fields in another specification (see Figure 9.11). A map contains an XSL style sheet that is used by the BizTalk Server at runtime to perform the transformation described in the map. The tool enables the visual creation of maps by providing drag and drop functionality through which users can drag a connecting line from an element in the left window (source window) to the target element in the right window (target window).
