some compelling advantages over the B2B exchange based model. First,
and most obvious, they permit companies to avoid the fees charged by
e-marketplaces. Second, they reduce the complexity and expense of
networking. It is much easier for a company to integrate its internal
information systems with a single P2P program or 'peering portal', than
with a bunch of different exchanges. Finally, while membership among
exchanges is limited, often determined along industry lines, P2P
marketplaces have no bounds.
For example, GnuMarkets is the first dynamic distributed marketplace
available in the peer-to-peer industry, where buyers and sellers can buy,
sell and trade items in a secure environment. GnuMarkets uses the
bandwidth, data storage and CPU of each participant, which eliminates
the need for central servers and lowers costs.
