RosettaNet dictionary (ITTD)
RosettaNet dictionary is a master dictionary, which defines the properties
for products, partners and business transactions. This dictionary, coupled
with an established implementation framework, is used to support the
e-business dialog known as PIP.
The dictionary captures the component characteristics, component
features and component associations. Characteristics are quantitative
properties that have a well-defined type and default unit of measurement.
Features are qualitative properties that may be single or multiple valued.
The dictionary enumerates the set of valid features if they exist.
Characteristics and features together are called as resources of a
component.
The following terms are used in specification names to denote
component resources:
1. Supplies: A component supplies a resource, e.g., a memory module
and hard disk 'supply' storage capacity.
2. Consumes: A component consumes a resource, e.g., software
'consumes' storage capacity when it is permanently stored on hard
disk.
3. Uses: A component uses resources in a shared way, e.g., software
'uses' temporary disk space; other programs use this space as well.
In addition, dictionaries capture the enumerated set of valid feature
values that exist. Associations imply component interrelationships
necessary for describing complex products. These are also present in
the dictionary. Apart from all the above, the dictionary contains
component functional or operational property specifications, such as
resource consumption characteristics and functional architecture
associations. Finally, the dictionary contains constraint descriptions that
define the boundary conditions within which complex products can
operate. For example, a laptop provides a minimum of 1 and a maximum
of 1 serial port.
