Implementing a WAP infrastructure with the use of a<br />

WAP gateway<br />

One way <strong>to</strong> build an infrastructure is <strong>to</strong> invest in a WAP gateway (see<br />

Figure 12.4). This means that the company must also have a Web server<br />

that is configured for WAP.<br />

Nokia offers this solution <strong>to</strong> their cus<strong>to</strong>mers. Typically, a company<br />

that chooses this type of solution can have a modem pool inside <strong>to</strong><br />

operate entirely on its own.<br />

Implementing a WAP infrastructure in concert with a<br />

WAP server<br />

This solution is based on the fact that the WAP architecture provides<br />

end-<strong>to</strong>-end security between the endpoints in the pro<strong>to</strong>col (see<br />

Figure 12.5) which can be done with a WAP Application Server. A<br />

WAP application server is a WWW-server with the WAP gateway<br />

features implemented.
