techniques. By implementing a resilient EAI solution, Gartmore has
been able to automate, streamline and accelerate the exchange of
transaction information between the internal applications used in
generating and executing trades.
A 'Landmark' Achievement
With a distributed technology environment — spanning Sun Solaris,
OS/400 and NT operating platforms, as well as Sybase, Oracle and
SQL Server databases — Gartmore needed a strategic EAI solution
capable of delivering accurate and reliable file sharing across all
platforms.
For this reason, it chose to implement a backbone infrastructure,
comprising IBM MQSeries message oriented middleware combined
with enableNet Data Integrator software from IBM Business Partner
CommerceQuest.
Gartmore implemented this solution initially to support, the
installation of a new financial order management and execution
package called Landmark. This system replaced the existing order
process, which involved handwritten deal tickets passed to input
clerks by dealers to be loaded on Paladign — Gartmore's existing
AS/400-based back-office investment accounting system. To fully
exploit the benefits of Landmark, Gartmore realized that it needed to
integrate it seamlessly with Paladign.
Having experimented with FTP and other file transfer mechanisms,
Gartmore concluded that it needed a far more resilient and reliable
solution for exchanging data between Landmark and Paladign.
MQSeries proved to be the answer. It is universally accepted as a
rehable and stable messaging product and its cross-platform capabilities
and guaranteed delivery mechanisms were precisely the attributes
Gartmore required to realize its STP vision.
Gartmore then chose enableNet Data Integrator as a complementary
EAI solution and discovered that the two products played to each
other's strengths perfectly. That's because enableNet Data Integrator
has been specially developed to employ MQSeries' message queuing
