Philaster says that"* the Manichees, and divers other<br />

heretics, make use <strong>of</strong> apocryphal scriptures. He says par-<br />

ticularly, that they have Acts <strong>of</strong> Andrew, John, and Peter.<br />

St. Cyril <strong>of</strong> Jerusalem, having named the three disciples<br />

<strong>of</strong> Mani, Thomas, Buddas, and liermas, adds '<br />

: Let" no man<br />

' read the gospel according to Thomas: for it is not a work <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> the apostles Peter, and Andrew, and Thomns, and John,<br />

which were not in the catholic canon.<br />
