Sociology-Anthropology Minor<br />

A minor in Sociology-Anthropology is <strong>of</strong>fered through Hayworth College.<br />

Sociology is the study <strong>of</strong> group life: its characteristics, changes, causes and consequences.<br />

It combines scientific and humanistic perspectives in the study <strong>of</strong> urban and rural life, family<br />

patterns and relationships, social change, inter-group relations, social class, environment,<br />

technology and communications, health seeking behavior, as well as social movements and<br />

community responses to disasters natural and created. Anthropology is the study <strong>of</strong> human<br />

societies and their cultures. It bridges the gulf between the sciences and humanities because<br />

<strong>of</strong> its subject matter and methodology. Anthropology is holistic and comparative, seeking a<br />

comprehensive view <strong>of</strong> human life by studying both small and large-scale societies in all parts<br />

<strong>of</strong> the world, in the past and present. The four major branches <strong>of</strong> Anthropology are cultural, archaeological,<br />

biological and linguistic. Cultural anthropologists study living people in their natural<br />

settings through participant observation. They recognize that humans are a product <strong>of</strong> their<br />
