ENVR 490 Senior Project<br />

This course consists <strong>of</strong> an independent research project. The topic and its scope are<br />

determined by the student in consultation with a faculty member. Careful research technique,<br />

critical evaluation <strong>of</strong> data, depth <strong>of</strong> specialized knowledge, independence and originality are<br />

cultivated as the project develops. An oral defense before Division <strong>of</strong> Science and Mathematics<br />

faculty and written thesis are required. Senior Project may be taken twice for projects that span<br />

two semesters 2 Hrs. Prerequisite: ENVR 101 and ENVR 300. As needed. Repeatable for a<br />

total <strong>of</strong> 4 Hrs. 2 Hrs.<br />

Introduction to the French language with emphasis on vocabulary and listening, speaking,<br />

FREN 102 Elementary French II<br />

Introduction to the French language with emphasis on vocabulary and listening, speaking,<br />

reading and writing skills. Fall Term, Spring Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 220 Intermediate French Grammar and Composition<br />

Review and more advanced study <strong>of</strong> the language with emphasis placed on structure and the<br />

written expression <strong>of</strong> thoughts. Fall Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 230 Intermediate French Reading and Conversation<br />

Review and more advanced study <strong>of</strong> the language with emphasis placed on oral use and<br />

readings <strong>of</strong> various texts. Spring Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 310 Advanced Grammar/Translation<br />

A thorough review and expansion <strong>of</strong> French grammar with emphasis on translation. This course<br />

fulfills the writing-intensive course requirement. Spring Term, odd years. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 320 Advanced Composition<br />

Application <strong>of</strong> the principles <strong>of</strong> French grammar through writing to increase fluency. This course<br />

fulfills the writing intensive course requirement. Fall Term, odd years. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 330 Reading for Comprehension/Vocabulary<br />

Development <strong>of</strong> reading skills through the study <strong>of</strong> various journalistic, historical and literary<br />

texts in order to increase vocabulary and enhance comprehension. Fall Term, even years. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 340 Advanced Conversation<br />

Advanced oral training through discussions, debates and presentations with stress on pronunciation,<br />

intonation and correct modes <strong>of</strong> expression. Spring Term, even years. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 343 French Literary Classics<br />

Consideration <strong>of</strong> major literary works from various periods <strong>of</strong> French literature, chosen for their<br />

values as contribution to world literature. As needed. 3 Hrs.<br />

FREN 350 French Literature<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> major literary works with the goal <strong>of</strong> understanding some <strong>of</strong> the important cultural,<br />

socioeconomic and political ideas that have shaped French society. Fall Term, even years.<br />
