43 THE COLLEGE of ARTS and SCIENCES The mission of the College of Arts & Sciences is to educate students in the tradition of the liberal arts to prepare them for noble lives, productive careers and responsibly active citizenship in an increasingly diverse, technological and global society. The College of Arts & Sciences is composed of 13 departments offering the following majors with a variety of tracks and concentrations. The College of Arts & Sciences offers the Interior Design major, Human and Community Services major and the Religion major only through the Hayworth College program. Undergraduates may choose one of these as a second major, but must be prepared to take the required courses when they are offered through Hayworth College - in the evening, on weekends, online, and/or as summer classes. Permission of the dean is required. THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
44 ART DEPARTMENT The Department of Art offers three majors. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for graduate study, teaching, museum work and professional careers in art and design areas. Studio experiences are balanced with courses in art History and the liberal arts to strengthen the humanistic base of the program. The essential aim of the program is to develop intellectual and performance abilities and assure a sound foundation for further development of the student or for his or her entry into a professional field. Majors Students may earn a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Art History, Studio Art or Design. The writing-intensive course requirement is met with ART 400. Art History Major Requirements: Students are required to complete 42 hours in the Art History major.
