ART DEPARTMENT<br />

The Department <strong>of</strong> Art <strong>of</strong>fers three majors. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for<br />

graduate study, teaching, museum work and pr<strong>of</strong>essional careers in art and design areas. Studio<br />

experiences are balanced with courses in art History and the liberal arts to strengthen the<br />

humanistic base <strong>of</strong> the program. The essential aim <strong>of</strong> the program is to develop intellectual and<br />

performance abilities and assure a sound foundation for further development <strong>of</strong> the student<br />

or for his or her entry into a pr<strong>of</strong>essional field.<br />

Majors<br />

Students may earn a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts degree with a major in Art History, Studio Art or Design.<br />

The writing-intensive course requirement is met with ART 400.<br />

Art History Major<br />

Requirements: Students are required to complete 42 hours in the Art History major.<br />

ART 316 Baroque & Rococo Art: The Age <strong>of</strong> Exploration<br />

ART 308 19th Century Art: The Rise <strong>of</strong> Modernism<br />

ART 315 20th and 21st Century Art: Art <strong>of</strong> the Modern Era<br />

ART 325 History <strong>of</strong> Photography<br />

ART 400 Art Criticism<br />

ART 407 Topics in Art History<br />

ART 498 Senior Paper<br />

Plus two <strong>of</strong> the following Studio Art courses:<br />
