NURS 408 Mental Health Nursing<br />

This course focuses on teaching strategies to promote mental health and manage responses to<br />

caring for mentally ill clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Prerequisite: acceptance<br />

to the nursing major. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Liability Fee. Clinical course fee. 5 Hrs.<br />

NURS 432 Health, Healing and Wellness<br />

This is a course designed for the clinically experienced registered nurse who is spiritually<br />

motivated to help members <strong>of</strong> a local congregation or parish interconnect the body, mind and<br />

spirit toward the goal <strong>of</strong> health and well being. 3 Hrs.<br />

NURS 442 Complex Nursing Situations<br />

This clinical course focuses on analysis and synthesis <strong>of</strong> concepts from nursing and the physical,<br />

social and behavioral sciences. Students refine, broaden and expand their perspectives <strong>of</strong><br />

nursing practice. Clinical experiences are arranged with faculty. Prerequisite: Registered Nurse,<br />

NURS 402. Prerequisite/Corequisite: NURS 401. 6 Hrs.<br />

NURS 454 Nursing Perspectives II<br />

Course focuses on pr<strong>of</strong>essional nursing issues that have an impact on current and future<br />

practice. Prerequisite: senior status. 3 Hrs.<br />

NURS 460 Independent Study<br />

Independent investigation <strong>of</strong> a selected topic in nursing is accomplished through faculty<br />

mentorship. Directed readings culminate in a scholarly paper. Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 6 Hrs.<br />

NURS 472 Contemporary Gerontological Nursing<br />

The course examines the role and effectiveness <strong>of</strong> community resources in assisting elders and<br />

their families to meet their healthcare needs. The course emphasizes the nursing care <strong>of</strong> adults<br />

in contemporary helath settings. Content includes current theories <strong>of</strong> gerontology and focuses<br />

on best practices in the care <strong>of</strong> older adults. Prerequisite: Registered Nurse or permission <strong>of</strong><br />

instructor. 3 Hrs.<br />

NURS 498 Nursing Internship I<br />

This clinical internship focuses on the application <strong>of</strong> concepts from nursing and the physical,<br />

social, and behavioral sciences to the clinical setting. The student's socialization into the pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

role is strengthened through an extended clinical experience with a nurse preceptor.<br />

This course and NURS 499 Nursing Internship II combine to fulfill the <strong>Queens</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Charlotte</strong> and North Carolina Board <strong>of</strong> Nursing internship requirement. 4 Hrs.<br />

NURS 499 Nursing Internship II<br />

This course continues to prepare students for their transition into pr<strong>of</strong>essional nursing practice.<br />

Students integrate prior learning and experience into the delivery <strong>of</strong> safe, effective, and individualized<br />

patient care through a precepted clinical experience. Seminars focus on the analysis and<br />

application <strong>of</strong> patient safety and quality initiatives across a variety <strong>of</strong> clinical settings. 2-4 Hrs.<br />
