FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT<br />

The Foreign Language Department <strong>of</strong>fers three majors leading to the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts degree:<br />

a Spanish major, a French major and the option to major in Two Languages. For specific course<br />

descriptions, see course listings under the appropriate language.<br />

French Major<br />

THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM<br />

Requirements for a major in French are:<br />

Thirty credit hours <strong>of</strong> courses in French above the 100-level as approved by the major advisor<br />

are required. The <strong>University</strong>-wide requirement <strong>of</strong> an internship may be in an environment related<br />

to French and may contribute up to six credits toward the major. Fulfillment <strong>of</strong> the internship<br />

requirement may be achieved either in a foreign placement or in an approved local placement. It<br />

is strongly recommended that at least six hours <strong>of</strong> credit be earned in foreign residency through<br />

participation in an international experience immersion program, foreign internship or other<br />

approved foreign study program.<br />

Spanish Major<br />

Requirements for a major in Spanish are:<br />

Thirty credit hours <strong>of</strong> courses in Spanish above the 100-level as approved by the major advisor.<br />

Eighteen credit hours above the 100-level in each <strong>of</strong> two languages as approved by the major<br />

advisor are required. Fulfillment <strong>of</strong> the internship requirement may be achieved either in a foreign<br />

placement or in an approved local placement. It is strongly recommended that at least six<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> credit be earned in foreign residency through participation in an international experience<br />

immersion program, foreign internship or other approved foreign study program.
