BUSN 492 Topics in Business<br />

This course is designed to investigate and evaluate current topics or specialized areas <strong>of</strong> business.<br />

Course topics are announced the semester preceding the <strong>of</strong>fering. Prerequisite: To be<br />

designated for each specific course <strong>of</strong>fered. Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 12 Hrs. 3 Hrs.<br />

BUSN 495 Independent Research/Study<br />

This course provides an opportunity for an individually designed program <strong>of</strong> directed readings<br />

or a research project. Each study or project requires approval <strong>of</strong> the supervising pr<strong>of</strong>essor and<br />

the division chairman. Open to senior Business majors with a 3.000 grade point average in the<br />

major. 1-3 Hrs.<br />

CHEMISTRY<br />

CHEM 101 General Chemistry I<br />

This course includes the structure <strong>of</strong> the atom; the structure <strong>of</strong> the nucleus and nuclear chemistry;<br />

the Periodic Table; chemical bonding; solids, liquids and gases; stoichiometric relationships;<br />

the properties <strong>of</strong> solutions; colloidal systems; chemical equilibria; and hydrocarbons.<br />

Three hours lecture per week. Designed for non-science majors. Corequisite: CHEM 101L.<br />

CHEM 101L General Chemistry I Laboratory<br />

This laboratory introduces the student to elementary glass-working, general laboratory equipment<br />

and techniques, the principles <strong>of</strong> quantitative operations and qualitative analysis. Three<br />

hours laboratory per week. Lab fees apply. 1 Hr.<br />

CHEM 111 Chemistry Principles I<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> atomic and molecular structures, electronegativity, the relationships <strong>of</strong> the Periodic<br />

Table, covalent, ionic and metallic bonding, molecular orbitals and enthalpy. Three hours lecture<br />

per week. Designed primarily for science majors. Corequisite: CHEM 111L. 3 Hrs.<br />

CHEM 111L Chemistry Principles I Laboratory<br />

This laboratory introduces students to general laboratory equipment and techniques and the<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> gravimetric analysis. Three hours laboratory per week. Lab fees apply. 1 Hr.<br />

CHEM 112 Chemical Principles II<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> chemical equilibria, reaction rates, free energy, electro-chemistry, acids, bases and<br />

pH and an introduction to carbon chemistry. Three hours lecture per week. Designed primarily<br />

for science majors. Prerequisite: CHEM 111 or its equivalent. Corequisite: CHEM 112L.<br />

CHEM 112L Chemistry Principles II Laboratory<br />

This laboratory introduces buffers, colligative properties, semi-micro techniques and volumetric<br />

and qualitative analysis. Lab fees apply. 1 Hr.<br />

CHEM 303 Organic Chemistry I<br />

Introductory course including an integrated survey <strong>of</strong> the more important compounds <strong>of</strong> the<br />

aliphatic and aromatic series; emphasis on problems in organic synthesis. Three hours lecture<br />

per week. Prerequisite: CHEM 112 or permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor. Corequisite: CHEM 303L.<br />
