Emphasis on improving fundamental skill, advanced strokes and techniques; singes and doubles<br />

An introduction to the basic principles <strong>of</strong> rhythm, design and dynamics in modern dance; concentration<br />

PHED 132 Intermediate Modern Dance<br />

Continuation <strong>of</strong> Physical Education 131, emphasizing comprehensive study <strong>of</strong> movement techniques<br />

PHED 134 Dance Production<br />

Experience in the choreography <strong>of</strong> dance as well as designing a dance performance. Students<br />

must have prior dance experience or permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor. May be repeated for credit.<br />

PHED 135 Folk and Square Dance<br />

Recreational activity class in folk dance and both traditional and modern square dance.<br />

Experience in instruction for students who plan to work in elementary education, recreation and<br />

PHED 136 Ballet I<br />

Introduction to classical ballet. May be repeated for credit. Fall Term, every year. Pass/No<br />

PHED 137 Body Dynamics<br />

Physiological principles and components <strong>of</strong> physical fitness presented. Additional topics addressed<br />

are diet, nutrition, health habits and stress management. Students choose an individualized<br />

program that includes walking, jogging, light weight training or a combination <strong>of</strong> activities.<br />

Fitness workouts comprise three fourths <strong>of</strong> the class work, theory one fourth. May be repeated<br />

for credit. Fall Term, Spring Term, every year. Pass/No Record 1 Hr.<br />

PHED 138 Heart Health and CPR<br />

A course designed to combine the study <strong>of</strong> Heart Health with American Red Cross CPR and<br />

First Aid. Three certifications in CPR: Adult, Infant and Child; one certification in First Aid.<br />

Fall Term, odd years. Pass/No Record 1 Hr.<br />

PHED 141 Weight Training<br />

Principles <strong>of</strong> weight training and conditioning and their application to everyday living. Includes<br />

basis weight training skills and activities for improving fitness. Bodybuilding and power lifting<br />

will be introduced. May not be repeated for credit. Fall Term, Spring Terms, every year. Pass/No<br />

Record 1 Hr.<br />

PHED 142 Aerobic Exercise<br />

Principles <strong>of</strong> weight training and conditioning and their application to everyday living. Includes<br />
