Research projects are completed in the area <strong>of</strong> the student's interest and draw upon laboratory,<br />
field and/or library investigations. A written report and oral presentation are required. Fall Term,<br />

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION<br />
BUSN 115 Introduction to Business<br />
This course is an introduction to each <strong>of</strong> the principal areas <strong>of</strong> the business curriculum:<br />
accounting, finance, management and marketing, as well as the role <strong>of</strong> business in American<br />
society and the nature <strong>of</strong> the private enterprise system. Required in Traditional Undergraduate<br />
Program only. 3 Hrs.<br />

BUSN 207 Financial Accounting<br />
This course introduces financial accounting principles. Topics to be covered include recording<br />
<strong>of</strong> transactions, preparation <strong>of</strong> various journals, posting <strong>of</strong> ledgers and preparation <strong>of</strong> income<br />
statements and balance sheets. 3 Hrs.<br />
BUSN 208 Managerial Accounting<br />
This course is a study <strong>of</strong> the analysis and use <strong>of</strong> accounting data to manage enterprises. Topics<br />
include cost-volume-pr<strong>of</strong>it relationships, decision analysis, budgeting, standard costing, segment<br />
reporting and basic product costing methods. Prerequisite: BUSN 207. 3 Hrs.<br />
BUSN 305 Legal Environment <strong>of</strong> Business<br />
This introduction to law emphasizes the legal and ethical rights and duties <strong>of</strong> the individual<br />
engaged in business. Topics to be covered include the Constitution, torts, crimes, agency,<br />
partnerships, corporations and ethics. Prerequisite: sophomore standing. 3 Hrs.<br />
BUSN 315 Business Law<br />
This is a study <strong>of</strong> law as it affects the individual engaged in business. Topics include contracts,<br />
sales and negotiable instruments. 3 Hrs.<br />
BUSN 318 Financial Statement Analysis<br />
This is a study <strong>of</strong> the analysis <strong>of</strong> financial statements by creditors and investors. Factors that<br />
impact the presentation <strong>of</strong> financial statement information are covered, as are the behavioral<br />
responses that result from financial analysis. Topics include the study <strong>of</strong> cutting edge technology<br />
that captures and retrieves financial data, the role <strong>of</strong> regulators in influencing presentation<br />
<strong>of</strong> data to the public and the dangers <strong>of</strong> misrepresented financial information. Prerequisite:<br />
BUSN 207. 3 Hrs.<br />
BUSN 319 Fraud and Business<br />
This course is a study <strong>of</strong> fraud schemes that are executed by an entity's own employees and<br />
management and affect the entity. The behavioral and social factors motivating schemes involving<br />
asset misappropriations, corruption and fraudulent financial statements along with prevention<br />
and detection strategies for minimizing the risk <strong>of</strong> fraud related losses are also examined.<br />
Prerequisite: BUSN 207. 3 Hrs.<br />
BUSN 320 Business Ethics<br />
Business ethics is "dilemma management," focusing on frameworks for decision-making. Using<br />
cases, the course explores individual, group, and corporate decision-making; government regulation,<br />
special interest groups and other constituencies; and the complexity <strong>of</strong> the ethical environment<br />
<strong>of</strong> business. Prerequisite: junior standing. 3 Hrs.
