ANTHROPOLOGY<br />

ANTH 201 Cultural Anthropology<br />

Emphasizes the heritage and diversity <strong>of</strong> human culture throughout the world through the study<br />

<strong>of</strong> human societies, language and culture, cultural change, social groups and relationships, ideology,<br />

ritual and symbolism. Spring Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

ANTH 320 Anthropology <strong>of</strong> Latin America<br />

This course examines Latin American societies and cultures from an anthropological perspective.<br />

Latin America includes Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. Using<br />

a comparative approach, students explore cultural diversity within and between Latin American<br />

nations. A grassroots perspective focuses on local communities as they adapt to change.<br />

Students study the types <strong>of</strong> problems facing Latin Americans today by examining how the past<br />

has influenced the present. Prerequisites: ANTH 201 or SOCI 203. Spring Term, odd years.<br />

3 Hrs.<br />

ANTH 330 American Ethnic Communities<br />

Students read and discuss book-length ethnographies set in ethnic communities in the contemporary<br />

United States. Ethnographies are in-depth portraits <strong>of</strong> particular communities based on<br />

systematic, long-term participant observation. They are the building blocks for ethnology, the<br />

comparison <strong>of</strong> communities to interpret and explain American ethnicity. Included are studies <strong>of</strong><br />

recently arrived, immigrant communities along with well-established American ethnic communities.<br />

We examine the history, social organization, cultural values and customs <strong>of</strong> each community,<br />

looking for similarities and differences in the American experience <strong>of</strong> community life.<br />

Prerequisites: ANTH 201 or SOCI 203. Spring Term, even years. 3 Hrs.<br />

ANTH 340 Directed Individual Study<br />

Independent reading and investigation <strong>of</strong> the literature relevant to a specific topic in anthropology.<br />

Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing, permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor, minimum GPA <strong>of</strong><br />

3.00. As needed. 1-3 Hrs.<br />

ANTH 350 Topics in Anthropology<br />

Investigation <strong>of</strong> a single topic or area in anthropology. The topic may vary from term to term.<br />

May be taken more than once with different subtitles. Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 6 Hrs. 3 Hrs.<br />

ART – INTERIOR DESIGN<br />

ARDE 201 Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> Interior Design I<br />

This course introduces the field <strong>of</strong> interior design including the history <strong>of</strong> furniture, elements and<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> design and space planning. Fall Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

ARDE 202 Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> Interior Design II<br />

This course covers physical needs and social dynamics and how we make ourselves comfortable<br />

and organize the spaces in which we live. Spring Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

ARDE 301 Textiles in Interior Design<br />

This course covers the elements and principles <strong>of</strong> design within a textile. Involves hands on studio<br />

exercises using textiles as the art form through the advanced exploration <strong>of</strong> printed and<br />

woven fabrics. Spring Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

ARDE 302 Color and Light<br />

This course explores the study <strong>of</strong> color and light as elements <strong>of</strong> interior design. The course will<br />

include the psychology <strong>of</strong> color and its application as well as its function. 3 Hrs.
