EDUC 450 Individual Studies in Education<br />

Programs <strong>of</strong> study for experienced classroom teachers, following their interests and needs, are<br />

planed with the help <strong>of</strong> the instructor. Persons intersted in enrolling in Education 450 must confer<br />

with the instructor in person or by letter prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> the course so that individual<br />

study plans may be formulated. Offered on demand. Prerequisite: Classroom teaching<br />

experience and permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor. 1-3 Hrs.<br />

EDUC 451 Postpracticum Elementary Education<br />

This seminar course, which follows student teaching and is part <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>essional block, is designed<br />

to provide the final integration <strong>of</strong> the theoretical and practical aspects <strong>of</strong> the education<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Through seminar topics and individual study, students will assess and strengthen<br />

the understandings and competencies required <strong>of</strong> teachers in elementry education. As needed.<br />

Pass/Fail 2 Hrs.<br />

EDUC 452 Postpracticum Seminar - Secondary Education<br />

This seminar course, which follows student teaching and is part <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>essional block, is designed<br />

to provide the final integration <strong>of</strong> the theoretical and practical aspects <strong>of</strong> the education<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Through seminar topics and individual study, students will assess and strengthen<br />

the understandings and competencies required <strong>of</strong> teachers in secondary education. As<br />

needed. Pass/Fail Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 4 Hrs. 2 Hrs.<br />

EDUC 498 Supervised Internship - Elementary<br />

This practicum includes direct observation <strong>of</strong> the lateral entry teacher, assessment <strong>of</strong> classroom<br />

competencies required for NC A level licensure, and collaborative support with assigned mentors<br />

and school administrators. Required seminars are scheduled through the semester. Prerequisites:<br />

All licensure requirements must be completed before the end <strong>of</strong> this semester. 3 Hrs.<br />

EDUC 499 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Internship<br />

This course is the culminating experience for Phase I <strong>of</strong> the MAT program. Students will spend<br />

13 weeks as interns in two supervised, assigned placements in the <strong>Charlotte</strong> Mecklenburg<br />

School System. Through this internship, students will integrate the theoretical and clinical<br />

dimensions <strong>of</strong> Phase I coursework through direct classroom experience. Reflective Journal,<br />

Case Studies. Final Course in Phase I. Student Teaching Fee Applies. Pass/Fail 12 Hrs.<br />

EDUC 499A Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Internship - Elementary<br />

Directed observation and student teaching in selected schools, grades K-6; seminars are<br />

scheduled throughout this period. Student Teaching Fee Applies. Pass/Fail 12 Hrs.<br />
