OCOM 645 Advanced Coaching Theories<br />
This course is a survey <strong>of</strong> advanced and contemporary theories in the study <strong>of</strong> organizational<br />
coaching and <strong>of</strong> the leading scholars and practitioners who have made important contributions<br />
to the field. Topics will include formal and informal coaching relationships; internal and external<br />
practices; and, advance coaching-related skill development. Students will develop coaching<br />
skills through in-class and out-<strong>of</strong>-class practice. Prerequisite: OCOM640 or permission <strong>of</strong><br />
instructor. 3 Hrs.<br />
OCOM 650 Independent Study<br />
A program <strong>of</strong> directed readings and a research project. Requires approval <strong>of</strong> the supervising<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essor and department chair. 1-3 Hrs.<br />
OCOM 665 International Experience<br />
During this course, students participate in a ôhands-onö exploration <strong>of</strong> the communication environment<br />
<strong>of</strong> a country or countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America or North America, with<br />
particular attention to the effect <strong>of</strong> the communication culture on organizations. Course requirements<br />
include attendance at pre-trip seminars and completion <strong>of</strong> all course assignments after<br />
the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the travel experience. 3 Hrs.<br />
GRADUATE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />
OCOM 675 Capstone in Organizational Communication<br />
This is the capstone course <strong>of</strong> the program. The course requires, through intensive case study,<br />
the integration <strong>of</strong> the major theories and principles from each <strong>of</strong> the preceding courses so that<br />
the student creates a defining perspective <strong>of</strong> the entire program <strong>of</strong> study. The preparation <strong>of</strong> an<br />
integrative project is required. Prerequisites: OCOM 602, OCOM 604, one course from each<br />
<strong>of</strong> the three clusters, and at least 9 hours <strong>of</strong> electives. 6 Hrs.<br />
ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT<br />
ODEV 601 Applied Research Meth and Stats<br />
This course serves as an introduction to graduate study in OD and provides students with a<br />
foundation for scholarly research. This course introduces students to applied research methods,<br />
statistics, quantitative and qualitative analyses. Special focus is given to research methods<br />
utilized in the social sciences which provide a fuller description and understanding <strong>of</strong> human<br />
behavior and dynamics <strong>of</strong> change in organizational life. Pass/Fail 3 Hrs.<br />
ODEV 602 Behavorial Factors in Finance<br />
This course introduces the "language <strong>of</strong> business" by providing the basic concepts, principles<br />
and analytical techniques in financial management. Topics include formulating financial objectives,<br />
short-term financial analysis, financial forecasting and planning. Special attention is paid<br />
to the individual, group and organizational dynamics <strong>of</strong> decision making in finance and accounting.<br />

ODEV 625 Introduction to Organization Development<br />
This course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> organizational development, including its history, ethics, literature,<br />
and the principal behavioral theories on which it is based. Analysis <strong>of</strong> the consultation<br />
process includes the skills and techniques involved in entry, contracting, organizational scanning,<br />
and preliminary diagnosis, as well as such individual and intra-group interventions coaching,<br />
process consultation, teaming and behavior modeling. 3 Hrs.<br />
ODEV 626 Adv Topics in Org Development<br />
Building on ODEV 625, this advanced graduate seminar explores cutting practices and findings<br />
in the field <strong>of</strong> organization development. Students participate in an applied OD effort that<br />
includes data collection and analysis, and client feedback. Special attention will be paid to the<br />
impact <strong>of</strong> emerging trends such as innovation and complexity theory on best practices in<br />
change management. 3 Hrs.
