HISTORY DEPARTMENT<br />

History, drawing upon nearly all fields <strong>of</strong> knowledge, helps provide a deeper understanding and<br />

perspective <strong>of</strong> the forces which influence individuals and the world around them. It trains one in<br />

the skills <strong>of</strong> research, analysis and written interpretation.<br />

Careers<br />

A concentration in History is an excellent general foundation for many occupations, pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

careers and graduate study. It provides opportunities for careers in teaching, policy research<br />

in government and business, archives and records management, law and politics and foreign<br />

service.<br />

Teacher licensure<br />

Students majoring in History may earn licensure to teach History or Social Studies on the secondary<br />

level (grades 9-12). See the School <strong>of</strong> Education for more information.<br />

Writing-intensive course requirement<br />

The writing-intensive course requirement is met with HIST 299.<br />

Degree<br />

The major in History leads to a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts degree.<br />

Students are required to complete 33 hours in the major.<br />
