EDUC 499C Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Internship - Secondary<br />

Directed observation and student teaching in selected schools, grades 9-12. Seminars are<br />

scheduled throughout this period. Student Teaching Fee Applies. Pass/Fail 12 Hrs.<br />

EDUC 499D Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Internship - Foreign Language<br />

Directed observation and student teaching in selected schools, grades K-12. Seminars are<br />

scheduled throughout this period. Student Teaching Fee Applies. Pass/Fail 12 Hrs.<br />

EDUC 499G Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Internship<br />

Course is designed for those students with extensive experience or certification in teaching in<br />

one area who now desire certification in area <strong>of</strong> experience or second area certification. Will<br />

include directed observation and student teaching in selected schools. Offered on demand.<br />

Student Teaching Fee applies. Prerequisite: Permission <strong>of</strong> the Instructor. Fall Term, Spring<br />

Term, every year. Pass/Fail 3-6 Hrs.<br />

ENGL 110 Composition I<br />

Development <strong>of</strong> the student's writing skills and introduction to research techniques. Emphasis<br />

is on the creation and revision <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> writing projects. Prerequisite for all other courses<br />

in the department. Fall Term every year in both the day and HC, and every summer. 3 Hrs.<br />

ENGL 120 Composition II<br />

Further development <strong>of</strong> the student's writing and research skills with focus on critical thinking<br />

and argumentation. Prerequisite for all other courses in the department. Spring Term every year<br />

in both the day and HC, and every summer. 3 Hrs.<br />

ENGL 205 Introduction to Literary Studies<br />

Introduction to the field <strong>of</strong> English studies, including critical theory, genres, research techniques,<br />

and advanced writing skills. Required <strong>of</strong> all students who plan to major in English<br />

(Literature and Writing Tracks). The course should be taken before or immediately after the<br />

declaration <strong>of</strong> the English major. This course fulfills the <strong>University</strong> writing-intensive requirement.<br />

Prerequisite: English 120 (or the equivalent) or permission <strong>of</strong> the department. Spring Term,<br />

every year in the day, every other year in HC. 3 Hrs.<br />

ENGL 206 Introduction to Creative Writing<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> principles <strong>of</strong> creative writing, with special attention to the various forms. The course<br />

will include study <strong>of</strong> principles <strong>of</strong> writing, with special attention to observation and reflection,<br />

form and meaning, modern usage and effective expression. 3 Hrs.<br />

ENGL 207 Advanced Expository Writing<br />

Designed to help students in all majors improve their writing skills. Prerequisite: English 120<br />

credit or permission <strong>of</strong> the department. Students may elect this course as COMM 207 in the<br />

traditional Undergraduate Program, as OCOM 207 in HC. Every term, alternating day (Fall)<br />

and HC (Spring). 3 Hrs.
