MUTH 432 Senior Music Therapy Practicum VIII<br />
Seniors lead and co-lead music therapy sessions in a variety <strong>of</strong> medical and rehabilitative setings,<br />
including a general hospital, pain rehabilitation cener, and with individuals in medical support<br />
groups. Must be taken concurrently with MUTH 410. Spring Term, every year. 2 Hrs.<br />
MUTH 499 Music Therapy Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Internship<br />
A six-month continuous full-time affiliation with an approved clinical facility which follows all<br />
course work. The intern will perform assigned music therapy duties under the supervision <strong>of</strong> an<br />
experienced registered music therapist. Open to music therapy majors who have completed all<br />
course work. Fall Term, Spring Term, every year. Pass/Fail 2 Hrs.<br />
NATURAL SCIENCES<br />
NSCI 101 Issues in Science This course will present issues <strong>of</strong> current interest in the sciences<br />
that are not <strong>of</strong>fered on a regular basis in the curriculum. Topics are announced annually. May<br />
not count toward any science or mathematics major. May be repeated for credit under different<br />
subtitles. 3 Hrs.<br />
NURSING<br />
NURS 100 Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> Nursing<br />
This course introduces concepts basic to the practice <strong>of</strong> Nursing. The course explores<br />
health/illness, nursing process, introduction to administration <strong>of</strong> medications, care <strong>of</strong> the<br />
perioperative client and pr<strong>of</strong>essional accountability. The roles <strong>of</strong> the nurse and other health<br />
team members are explored as the student is introduced to the clinical setting. Basic concepts<br />
<strong>of</strong> critical thinking, nursing process, communication, holistic caring relationships, and pharmacology<br />
are the foci <strong>of</strong> student learning in the clinical setting. Physical assessment, teachinglearning<br />
principles, asepsis and documentation are also included. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional liability fee.<br />
Nursing Lab fee. Prerequisites: currently enrolled on NC-NA I Registry, Current CPR.<br />
Corequisites: BIOL 211, ENGL 110, PSYC 201. 5 Hrs.<br />
NURS 105 Medical Terminology<br />
This course introduces the basic techniques <strong>of</strong> medical word building that can be easily understood<br />
and applied by the average student. Students are immersed in medical terminology as<br />
if learning a foreign language. Anatomical, physiological, and pathological terms, including<br />
pronunciation and meanings are introduced. Students are introduced to common medical<br />
abbreviations and common terms used to communicate within healthcare settings. Application<br />
<strong>of</strong> terms and abbreviations within the clinical setting is also included. Prerequisite: None.<br />

NURS 118 Maternity Nursing Nursing Maternity<br />
Nursing is designed to apply the Nursing process to emerging family and to reproductive health<br />
problems <strong>of</strong> women. Common assessment strategies and interventions for the mother, fetus,<br />
neonate and family are explored. Nursing management <strong>of</strong> common health needs/problems are<br />
introduced. Emphasis is placed on teaching and learning principles as applied to families <strong>of</strong> culturally<br />
diverse backgrounds. Students perform various aspects <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>essional Nursing role<br />
while understanding trends and issues in healthcare. Students have clinical experiences with<br />
maternity, neonatal, and gynecological clients. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional liability fee. Clinical course fee.<br />
Prerequisites: NURS 100, BIOL 211, ENGL 110, PSYC 201. Corequisites: SOCI 203,<br />
