CHEM 303L Organic Chemistry Laboratory I<br />

This course introduces the student to the basic experimental techniques <strong>of</strong> chemical synthesis<br />

<strong>of</strong> organic compounds. Three hours laboratory per week. Lab fees apply. Prerequisite: CHEM<br />

CHEM 304 Organic Chemistry II<br />

Theoretical course treating the mechanisms <strong>of</strong> organic reactions in terms <strong>of</strong> modern structural<br />

theories. Three hours lecture per week. Prerequisite: CHEM 303 or permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor.<br />

Corequisite: CHEM 304L 3 Hrs.<br />

CHEM 304L Organic Chemistry Laboratory II<br />

A continuation <strong>of</strong> Laboratory 303L and the introduction <strong>of</strong> the student to organic qualitative<br />

analysis. Three hours laboratory per week. Lab fees apply. Prerequisite: CHEM 303L. 1 Hr.<br />

CHEM 305 Quantitative Analysis<br />

Introduction to the theory and practice <strong>of</strong> quantitative analytical chemistry. Topics include volumetric<br />

analysis, spectroscopy, electrochemistry and chromatography. Three hours lecture per<br />

week. This course fulfills the writing-intensive course requirement. Prerequisite: CHEM 112.<br />

Corequisite: CHEM 305L. 3 Hrs.<br />

CHEM 305L Quantitative Analysis Laboratory<br />

This laboratory introduces the student to the techniques <strong>of</strong> making accurate and precise measurements<br />

in the laboratory, with an emphasis on volumetric, gravimetric and electrochemical<br />

analysis methods. Three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory per week. Lab fees apply. 1 Hr.<br />

CHEM 307 Instrumental Analysis II<br />

A second course in analytical chemistry, treating the theory and operation <strong>of</strong> electronic instrumentation.<br />

Three hours lecture per week. Prerequisite: CHEM 305 or permission. Corequisite:<br />

CHEM 307L. Spring Term, Even Years. 3 Hrs.<br />

CHEM 307L Instrumental Analysis Laboratory<br />

This laboratory introduces the student to design, construction and operation <strong>of</strong> chemical instruments,<br />

as well as the proper selection <strong>of</strong> analytical techniques for solving chemical problems.<br />

Three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory per week. Lab fees apply. Prerequisite: CHEM 305. Spring Term,<br />

CHEM 308 Physical Chemistry<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> the structure <strong>of</strong> gases, the physical properties <strong>of</strong> matter, the laws <strong>of</strong> thermodynamics<br />

and the principles <strong>of</strong> equilibria. Three hours lecture per week. Prerequisites: CHEM 112,<br />

PHYS 101, MATH 121, 122 or permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor. Corequisite: CHEM 308L Fall<br />
