THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
International Students
International students must also fulfill the admission requirements for international students
found on page 24. In addition, international students applying to the traditional undergraduate
program must have any high school transcripts in a language other than English translated into
English by an official at the high school or college issuing the transcript, or by a certified translator.
It is recommended that international students take the SAT. Queens accepts the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) in place of the SAT. A minimum score of 550 (written
test) or 213 (electronic test) is required for admission.
Furthermore, international student applicants for admission to the traditional undergraduate
program must provide the Undergraduate Office of Admissions with a completed University
application for admission accompanied by the payment of a $40 application fee.
Application deadlines for international students are July 1 for fall enrollment and November 1
for spring enrollment. To indicate their intent to enroll, international students who have been
accepted to the University are asked to send a non-refundable tuition deposit of $1,000.
Non-Traditional Students
Queens welcomes non-traditional age students who wish to take undergraduate courses
during the day in the traditional undergraduate program. Students 25 years of age or older at
the time of their first entrance to the University must meet the same admission requirements as
the traditional age student, except that SAT or ACT test scores are recommended but not required.
The Undergraduate Office of Admissions and the Office of Student Development can provide
additional information concerning the resources available to the non-traditional age student
who wishes to enroll in the traditional undergraduate program.
Non-traditional students interested in earning their degree by taking evening/weekend
classes should see the Hayworth College section of the Catalog.
Non-Degree students
Prospective students who are not candidates for a degree, but who wish to enroll for credit,
may apply for admission as non-degree students. Non-degree students who already hold a
bachelor's degree are allowed the privilege of unlimited credit hours. Non-degree students who
do not already hold a bachelor's degree are limited to a cumulative total of 15 credit hours. The
availability of space may limit enrollment in some courses.
Non-degree students must maintain at least a 2.000 average to continue their enrollment. A
non-degree student who wishes to become a degree candidate must apply through the Undergraduate
Office of Admissions.
Visiting students
Regularly enrolled students in good standing at other colleges and universities may apply as
visiting (transient) students at Queens. Generally, a visiting student is admitted for only one
term; however, visiting students may re-apply for additional terms. Application materials may be
obtained from the Undergraduate Office of Admissions. Students must have the appropriate official
from the parent institution submit a letter stating that the student is enrolled in the institution,
is in good standing, and has permission to enroll in courses at Queens to be transferred
back to the parent institution.
