MUSC 281P Applied Music Piano
Private instruction for the second year of private collegiate study for students majoring in music
or music therapy or for a non-music major by permission. Prerequisite: MUSC 181 or permission

MUSC 281S Applied Music Strings
Private instruction for the second year of private collegiate study for students majoring in music
or music therapy or for a non-music major by permission. Prerequisite: MUSC 181 or permission

MUSC 281V Applied Music Voice
Private instruction for the second year of private collegiate study for students majoring in music

MUSC 281W Applied Music Wind Instrument
Private instruction for the second year of private collegiate study for students majoring in music

MUSC 310 Conducting
A course designed to develop conducting skills appropriate to the performance of instrumental
and choral music. Basic skills covered include the negotiation of various patterns, preparatory
beats, cues, releases, etc. Prerequisite: MUSC 114. Fall Term. 2 Hrs.
MUSC 313 Piano Pedagogy and Literature I
A survey and evaluation of piano methods for use in teaching beginning and intermediate students.
Students will observe the teaching styles of several professional piano teachers. As
needed. 2 Hrs.
MUSC 314 Piano Pedagogy II and Literature
Examination of the literature for advanced students, with discussion of musicianship, technique,
theory and interpretation. As needed. 3 Hrs.
MUSC 321 Music History and Literature I
An historical survey of music from ancient times to the end of the Baroque Era (1750).
Designed to develop a perspective of the development of music in its social-cultural context, a
repertory of representative works and composers, and a technique for listening analytically and
critically. Required for music majors. Non-majors by permission only. Prerequisite: MUSC 100.
Fall Term, odd years. 3 Hrs.
MUSC 322 Music History and Literature II
Continuation of MUSC 321, covering the period from 1750 to the present. Required for music
majors. Non-majors by permission only. Prerequisites: MUSC 100. Spring Term, odd years.
3 Hrs.
MUSC 324 Vocal Pedagogy and Literature I
Study of history and schools of vocal teaching and technique. Methods and procedures for
teaching private and class voice. Vocal health and prevention/recognition of vocal abuse.
Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor and one year of college-level vocal instruction.
