NURS 354 Nursing Perspectives I<br />

This course is the first <strong>of</strong> two courses related to Nursing perspectives. This course examines<br />

historical and current factors that shape the pr<strong>of</strong>ession, focusing on legal an ethical issues that<br />

are critical to the practice <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional Nursing. 1-2 Hrs.<br />

NURS 354 Nursing Perspectives I<br />

This course focuses on pr<strong>of</strong>essional role development including an historical perspective and<br />

influences on current practice. 2 Hrs.<br />

NURS 360 Topics in Nursing<br />

This course is designed to investigate a current topic or specialized area <strong>of</strong> Nursing. The topics<br />

will vary from term to term and will provide the student with an opportunity to study a topic that<br />

is not <strong>of</strong>fered on a regular basis in the curriculum. Open to all students. 3 Hrs.<br />

UNDERGRADUATE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />

NURS 361 Forensics<br />

This course is designed to train the participant to recognize and properly document forensic<br />

cases and to collect and correctly package evidence. The course will prepare the participant to<br />

work with the courts and law enforcement as well as to identify the advocacy needs <strong>of</strong> patients<br />

and community resources available to victims <strong>of</strong> crime. Prerequisite: None. 3 Hrs.<br />

NURS 372 Health Care Informatics<br />

This course is designed to familiarize nursing students with the concepts and theories <strong>of</strong> interdisciplinary<br />

healthcare information systems (HIS). The course uses web-based technology,<br />

text reading, and email discussions in addition to traditional in-class lecture and assumes a<br />

basic working knowledge <strong>of</strong> Micros<strong>of</strong>t Word. Prerequisite: Registered nurse or permission <strong>of</strong><br />

instructor. 3 Hrs.<br />

NURS 400 Nursing Research<br />

In this writing-intensive course, students examine the research process through critical<br />

appraisal <strong>of</strong> existing Mursing research. Analysis <strong>of</strong> previous studies guides teams <strong>of</strong> students in<br />

designing research projects aimed at the resolution <strong>of</strong> identified clinical nursing problems.<br />

Emphasis is on utilization <strong>of</strong> research findings to establish evidence based nursing intervention.<br />

Corequisite/Prerequisite: MATH 206. 3 Hrs.<br />

NURS 401<br />

Leadership in Nursing This course emphasizes management theory in healthcare delivery.<br />

Principles <strong>of</strong> management and changes within the healthcare system are related to Nursing<br />

practice. Prerequisites: all 300-level nursing courses, or permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor. 3 Hrs.<br />

NURS 402 Community Health Nursing<br />

This course examines nursing as part <strong>of</strong> the larger healthcare delivery system. Emphasis is on<br />

identification <strong>of</strong> health and health promotion needs <strong>of</strong> families and communities. Demographic<br />

and epidemiological data are explored to identify populations at risk. Clinical experiences are<br />

arranged with faculty. Prerequisite: Registered nurse admitted to major. 6 Hrs.<br />

NURS 403 Community Health Nursing<br />

This course examines nursing as part <strong>of</strong> the larger healthcare delivery system. Emphasis is<br />

on the identification <strong>of</strong> health and health promotion needs <strong>of</strong> families and communities.<br />

Demographic and epidemiological data are explored to identify populations at risk. Clinical<br />

experiences are provided in a broad spectrum <strong>of</strong> community agencies. Clinical course fee.<br />

Prerequisite: NURS 408. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Liability Fee. 5 Hrs.
