Private instruction for the fourth year <strong>of</strong> private collegiate study for students majoring in music<br />

Freshmen music therapy majors will work weekly in the on-campus clinic with a child or young<br />

adult who has a developmental disability. Responsibilities include assessing, observing, planning<br />

co-leading and/or leading sessions and evaluating progress <strong>of</strong> client. Fall Term, Spring<br />

Term. Pass/Fail 1 Hr.<br />

MUTH 132 Freshman Music Therapy Practicum II<br />

Freshmen music therapy majors will work weekly in the on-campus clinic with a child or young<br />

One weekly session <strong>of</strong> 50 minutes in which students are instructed in the fundamentals <strong>of</strong><br />

guitar playing. The second section <strong>of</strong> this course is specifically designed for the music therapy<br />

major who must pass a pr<strong>of</strong>iciency exam in this instrument before graduation. Fall Term. 1 Hr.<br />

MUTH 166 Guitar Class II<br />

One weekly session <strong>of</strong> 50 minutes in which students are instructed in the fundamentals <strong>of</strong><br />

guitar playing. This course is specifically designed for the music therapy major who must pass a<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iciency exam in this instrument before graduation. MUTH 165 is prerequisite to MUTH 166<br />

for music therapy majors. Fall Term, Spring Term. 1 Hr.<br />

MUTH 211 Music Therapy<br />

Methods/Materials for Children Emphasis will be placed on selecting appropriate music therapy<br />

experiences for young children with special needs. Students will create, arrange and conduct<br />

appropriate music activities for children with various disabilities. Prerequisite: MUTH 217 and<br />

first year <strong>of</strong> theory. Fall Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

MUTH 217 Introduction to Music Therapy<br />

An introductory course that surveys topics on clinical responsibilities <strong>of</strong> a music therapist,<br />

children and adults served in music therapy, and techniques/ interventions used with them.<br />

Fall Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

MUTH 231 Sophomore Music Therapy Practicum III<br />

Students continue to work with individual clients in the on-campus clinic while also working<br />

<strong>of</strong>f-campus with children in special elementary classrooms. Required <strong>of</strong> all sophomore Music<br />

Therapy majors. Fall Term, every year. Pass/Fail 1 Hr.<br />
