MUSC 481V Applied Music Voice
Private instruction for the fourth year of private collegiate study for students majoring in music
or music therapy or for a non-music major by permission. Prerequisite: MUSC 381 or permission

MUSC 481W Applied Music Wind Instruments

MUTH 131 Freshman Music Therapy Practicum I
Freshmen music therapy majors will work weekly in the on-campus clinic with a child or young
adult who has a developmental disability. Responsibilities include assessing, observing, planning
co-leading and/or leading sessions and evaluating progress of client. Fall Term, Spring
Term. Pass/Fail 1 Hr.
MUTH 132 Freshman Music Therapy Practicum II
Freshmen music therapy majors will work weekly in the on-campus clinic with a child or young

MUTH 165 Guitar Class I
One weekly session of 50 minutes in which students are instructed in the fundamentals of
guitar playing. The second section of this course is specifically designed for the music therapy
major who must pass a proficiency exam in this instrument before graduation. Fall Term. 1 Hr.
MUTH 166 Guitar Class II
One weekly session of 50 minutes in which students are instructed in the fundamentals of
guitar playing. This course is specifically designed for the music therapy major who must pass a
proficiency exam in this instrument before graduation. MUTH 165 is prerequisite to MUTH 166
for music therapy majors. Fall Term, Spring Term. 1 Hr.
MUTH 211 Music Therapy
Methods/Materials for Children Emphasis will be placed on selecting appropriate music therapy
experiences for young children with special needs. Students will create, arrange and conduct
appropriate music activities for children with various disabilities. Prerequisite: MUTH 217 and
first year of theory. Fall Term, every year. 3 Hrs.
MUTH 217 Introduction to Music Therapy
An introductory course that surveys topics on clinical responsibilities of a music therapist,
children and adults served in music therapy, and techniques/ interventions used with them.
Fall Term, every year. 3 Hrs.
MUTH 231 Sophomore Music Therapy Practicum III
Students continue to work with individual clients in the on-campus clinic while also working
off-campus with children in special elementary classrooms. Required of all sophomore Music
Therapy majors. Fall Term, every year. Pass/Fail 1 Hr.
