PSYC 300 Information Literacy in Psychology<br />

This course is designed to provide instruction in basic literacy skills necessary to be effective<br />

in psychology. Students will receive training in searching, accessing, reading, and critically<br />

evaluating scientific databases, articles and chapters; writing APA style research reports and<br />

review papers; using SPSS, Excel, and other s<strong>of</strong>tware programs to manipulate and analyze<br />

data; and presenting psychological research in various formats including written, graphic and<br />

oral formats. In addition career and graduate school opportunities will be presented and<br />

reviewed. Prerequisite: PSYC 201 3 Hrs.<br />

PSYC 302 Psychology <strong>of</strong> Personality<br />

Survey <strong>of</strong> selected theories <strong>of</strong> personality and principles <strong>of</strong> personality development. Spring<br />

Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

PSYC 303 Social Psychology<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> the behavior <strong>of</strong> the individual in society, including attitude formation and measurement,<br />

interpersonal perception and the behavior <strong>of</strong> the individual in groups. Students may elect this<br />

course as SOCI 303. Spring Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

PSYC 303L Experimental Social Psychology<br />

Application <strong>of</strong> experimental methods to problems <strong>of</strong> social psychology such as attitude change,<br />

conformity and leadership. Special problems <strong>of</strong> research design and techniques peculiar to the<br />

area <strong>of</strong> social psychology are considered. Prerequisite: PSYC 303. Three hours laboratory per<br />

week. As needed. 1 Hr.<br />

PSYC 304 Abnormal Psychology<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> the deviant individual from both the dynamic and behavioral viewpoints. The diagnosis,<br />

etiology, treatment and prevention <strong>of</strong> maladaptive behavior are considered. Fall Term, every<br />

year. 3 Hrs.<br />

PSYC 305 Introduction to Counseling<br />

An introduction to various theories <strong>of</strong> behavior change, including dynamic, behavioral, cognitive,<br />

humanistic and existential approaches to therapy. Individual, group and family therapies will be<br />

discussed. Prerequisite: PSYC 302 or 304. Fall Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

PSYC 306 Experimental Methods in Psychology I<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> experimental methods used to address psychological questions. Principles <strong>of</strong><br />

research, including experimental design, uses <strong>of</strong> apparatus, and procedural and statistical<br />

control are considered. This course fulfills the writing-intensive course requirement.<br />

Prerequisite: MATH 206. This course must be taken concurrently with PSYC 306L. Fall Term,<br />

every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

PSYC 306L Experimental Psychology Lab<br />

Application <strong>of</strong> techniques and procedures <strong>of</strong> psychological research including conducting<br />

experiments. Three hours laboratory per week. This course must be taken concurrently with<br />

PSYC 306. Fall Term, every year. 1 Hr.<br />

PSYC 307 Experimental Psychology II<br />

This course is the second <strong>of</strong> a two-part research course (following PSYC 306 and PSYC<br />

306L). It is designed to provide students with more in depth experience in psychological<br />

research. The course includes completion <strong>of</strong> an independent research project and participation<br />

in faculty driven research projects. Students will present their research and be prepared to<br />

submit their research for publication and presentation in a regional or national venue. Graduate<br />

school preparation is an additional important part <strong>of</strong> the course. Prerequisite: Successful<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> PSYC 306 and PSYC 306L. 3 Hrs.<br />
