MATH 417 Introduction to Complex Analysis<br />

Development <strong>of</strong> the theory <strong>of</strong> complex numbers and functions, power series, Cauchy's theorem<br />

and applications, harmonic functions and conformal mapping. Prerequisite: MATH 415. As<br />

requested by students. 3 Hrs.<br />

MATH 430 Topics in Mathematics<br />

This course provides the opportunity for a faculty member and a group <strong>of</strong> interested students<br />

to study a subject that is not <strong>of</strong>fered on a regular basis in the curriculum. Topics are announced<br />

annually. May be repeated for credit under different subtitles. May vary with topic. Lecture hours<br />

vary with the hours credit and the course taught. 1, 2, 3 or 4 Hrs. 3 Hrs.<br />

MATH 450 Independent Study<br />

MATH 450 Independent Studies in Mathematics Research projects in the area <strong>of</strong> the student's<br />

interest; written report will be required. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: Open to<br />

Mathematics majors with at least junior standing. 1-3 Hrs.<br />

MATH 496 Senior Seminar Preparation<br />

Each senior will be assigned an advisor from the mathematics faculty, with whose guidance<br />

the senior will read in a mathematical area and select the topic for a paper to be written in the<br />

spring semester. A grade <strong>of</strong> K will be assigned for MATH 496 until MATH 497 has been<br />

completed. Prerequisite: Open to mathematics majors with at least junior standing. Every<br />

semester. Fall Term, every year. 1 Hr.<br />

MATH 497 Senior Seminar<br />

Each senior will complete the paper for which preparatory work was done during the fall semester.<br />

The paper will be presented in the senior seminar and a written version <strong>of</strong> the paper may be<br />

housed in the library. Prerequisite: MATH 496. Every semester. Spring Term, every year. 2 Hrs.<br />
