DEGREES
All candidates for the baccalaureate degree are required to meet all degree requirements as
well as the requirements for their major. Each major leads to either a Bachelor of Arts degree
(BA), a Bachelor of Science degree (BS), a Bachelor of Music degree (BM), or a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing degree (BSN).
The BA degree is a liberal arts degree. It provides general knowledge in many fields and emphasizes
intellectual skills such as thinking, problem solving, reasoning, and judgment. The primary
major department shall be required; students may, however, take more than 40 hours in a major
department at their own initiative.
The BS degree is more specialized than the BA, emphasizing Mathematics, science, or
computer skills. Majors in Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science lead to the Bachelor
of Science degree. A major for the Bachelor of Science shall consist of no fewer than 32 credit
hours. The Biology department also offers a major leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree.
The BM degree and BSN degree are more specialized. A major in Music Therapy leads to a
bachelor of music degree, while a major in Nursing leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
degree.
