ART 452 Independent Study: Art History<br />

Advanced independent work in specialized areas <strong>of</strong> art history for the mature, academically advanced<br />

student. Open to juniors and seniors with a B average in art and approval <strong>of</strong> the department.<br />

As needed. Repeatable for a total <strong>of</strong> 6 Hrs. 1-3 Hrs.<br />

ART 497 Senior Critique<br />

Developing a coherent art-critical position. This requires assembling a portfolio and providing<br />

written critical justification <strong>of</strong> artistic production and aims. To be directed on a rotating basis by<br />

department faculty and evaluated by the art faculty. Prerequisite: Art major, senior standing, last<br />

semester. Spring Term, every year. 3 Hrs.<br />

ART 498 Senior Paper<br />

This capstone course consists <strong>of</strong> an independent exploration <strong>of</strong> interactions between the student's<br />

major and the chosen concentration. The specific topic is to be selected by the student<br />

in consultation with his/her art history advisor. To be directed on a rotating basis by department<br />

faculty and evaluated by the art faculty. Prerequisite: Art major, senior standing, last semester.<br />

Spring Term, every other year. 3 Hrs.<br />

BIOLOGY<br />

BIOL 100 Biology for Non-Majors<br />

An introduction to the principles <strong>of</strong> biology focused on evolution, ecology, modern genetics,<br />

and cell structure and function. Understanding the scientific method, the role <strong>of</strong> biology in modern<br />

society and the application <strong>of</strong> biological knowledge in daily life will be emphasized throughout<br />

the course. This course fulfills the lab science requirement for graduation. Three hours <strong>of</strong><br />

lecture and three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory each week. Lab fees apply. Fall Term, Spring term every<br />

year. 4 Hrs.<br />

BIOL 120 Introduction Medical Microbiology<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> the structure and function <strong>of</strong> the human body with focus on cells, tissues and the<br />

integumentary, skeletal, nervous and reproductive systems. Laboratory study is designed to<br />

demonstrate anatomical structures and basic physiological principles. Three hours lecture and<br />

three hours laboratory a week. Recommended prerequisite: CHEM 101. Lab fees apply. May<br />

not be counted toward a major except in Nursing and Music Therapy. Fall Term, Every Year.<br />

BIOL 208 Principles <strong>of</strong> Biology I<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> general ecological and evolutionary principles, with emphasis on the origins and diversity<br />

<strong>of</strong> living organisms, their interactions and their environment. Three hours <strong>of</strong> lecture and<br />

three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory each week. Lab fees apply. Fall Term, Every Year. 4 Hrs.<br />

BIOL 209 Principles <strong>of</strong> Biology II<br />

An introduction to the discipline <strong>of</strong> biology with a focus on molecular aspects. Topics will include<br />

cellular structure, division and metabolism, concepts <strong>of</strong> molecular biology such as DNA,<br />

RNA, protein synthesis and genetic processes. Laboratory emphasizes the scientific method.<br />

Three hours <strong>of</strong> lecture and three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory each week. Lab fees apply. Spring Term,<br />

Every Year. Recommended prerequisite: High school chemistry or CHEM 101 or 111. 4 Hrs.<br />
