relevant and interesting content. The digital medium is encyclopedic, that is, it stores vast<br />

amounts of information that the viewer is then able to access and manipulate. In order to<br />

allow viewers to customize their own viewing experiences, iTV interaction designers<br />

should provide multiple access paths, or multiple ways of sorting and presenting<br />

information. For example, as illustrated by Figure 5.8, BBCi multistream sports<br />

broadcasting allows viewers to customize their viewing experiences by choosing from<br />

multiple camera angles or audio streams.<br />

NASCAR’s TrackPass with PitCommand application also provides a good<br />

example of customizability. As illustrated by Figure 5.9, the interactive application,<br />

featuring a live streaming GPS telemetry system, has the ability to track the position of<br />

all 43 NASCAR Winston Cup Series cars’ on track in real-time. It also allows users to<br />

access information about each car’s speed, RPMs, throttle and braking, and be privy to<br />

live in-car audio communication between the drivers and their teams during the race.<br />

PitCommand allowed viewer at home to follow along with their favorite NASCAR<br />
