2.3.2 Affordances
As with DVRs, viewers have a high degree of control over their viewing
experiences. Instead of waiting for a favorite program to air, viewers can simply choose
what they want to watch at any given time. With Comcast ON DEMAND, for example,
viewers can choose from hundreds of films and programs, and watch them whenever they
want, as many times as they want, for up to 24 hours. Video on demand systems also
allow users to time-shift, with the ability to pause, rewind, fast forward, or stop and
resume a program any time.
These affordances also relate to key aspects of good interaction design by giving
users the ability to customize and control their viewing experiences.
