VIDEO ON DEMAND (VOD)<br />

VOD systems allow viewers to select and watch video content on their television over a<br />

network. VOD systems are either streaming, in which viewing can start as the video<br />

streams over the network, or download, in which the program is downloaded in its<br />

entirety to a set-top box before viewing starts. Near Video on Demand (NVOD) systems<br />

are streaming systems in which viewers wanting to watch a program are batched up for<br />

the next start time, which occurs in staggered intervals.<br />

WEB-BASED ASYNCHRONOUS<br />

Web-based asynchronous iTV applications differ from Web-based synchronous ones in<br />

that the enhanced content does not need to be delivered or viewed by the user during the<br />

broadcast itself and is not time sensitive. Instead, users can browse the interactive or<br />

enhanced content on the Web at any time to learn more about the show and to interact<br />

with relevant content.<br />

WEB-BASED SYNCRHONOUS<br />

An iTV application is one in which interactivity is synchronized with the broadcast of the<br />

program itself. This type of programming takes advantage of a two-screen application in<br />
