Enhanced content appearing on the same screen as the primary information
should not compete, but rather should seamlessly reinforce the user’s engagement within
the world of the program.
Principle: Interfaces should have a consistent theme
An iTV application will typically have many screens of content. In each of these
instances, the interface design or conceptual model should remain visually consistent.
Maintaining good visual continuity will keep users engaged as well as let them know
what to expect from the application. Figure 5.28, from the Frank Lloyd Wright interactive
application from Intel/PBS, embodies this principle well. The application employs an
architectural theme throughout, in keeping with the subject matter. It also makes
consistent usage of color scheme and typography. Strong visual elements, particularly in
Figures 5.28 (c) and (d), direct the viewer’s eye movements across the screen.
