Based on the age <strong>and</strong> sex-specific HIV prevalence rates from the THMIS 2007/08 <strong>and</strong> National<br />

Population Projections for 2008 40 , the total number of <strong>Tanzania</strong>ns aged 15-49 years liv<strong>in</strong>g with<br />

HIV is estimated to be slightly over one million. 41 Women predom<strong>in</strong>ate <strong>in</strong> the younger age groups<br />

<strong>and</strong> comprise an estimated 61% of all adults liv<strong>in</strong>g with HIV (Figure 28).<br />
