Based on the age and sex-specific HIV prevalence rates from the THMIS 2007/08 and National
Population Projections for 2008 40 , the total number of Tanzanians aged 15-49 years living with
HIV is estimated to be slightly over one million. 41 Women predominate in the younger age groups
and comprise an estimated 61% of all adults living with HIV (Figure 28).
