Terminals are essential for the success of new applications and
services. This is recognised by EURESCOM. The present project
on strategic studies (P311) will therefore analyse the need
for increased EURESCOM activities in the area terminals and
applications.
COST
COST 237 perform research on multimedia techniques and their
application to distributed information services based on existing
telecommunication networks and services. The results will be
demonstrated in a selected application. COST 237 will be terminated
in February 1997. Another COST project of relevance is
COST 211 on coding of video signals in multimedia services.

There is also COST work on telecommunications services for
disabled people (COST 219 and COST 220). The objectives are
to stimulate activities in the field, and to harmonise several systems
for communication between hearing and speech impaired
persons. Liaison between COST 220 and ETSI TC TE to analyse
the need for standardisation in this area is established.
