393Forskningsprosjekt 911018:Sjögren`s syndrome - molecular and clinical markers fordiagnosis and progressionProsjektansvarlig: Roland Jonsson (roland.jonsson@gades.uib.no), Universitetet i BergenMolecular/clinical markers for diagnosis and progression in chronicinflammationThe research activity, the research training and the skills of methods are main elementsand illustrates a local operative network at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Bergen,to study chronic inflammation with a translational approach. Our research effort focuses on chronic and rheumatic diseases in humans and associated murinemodel systems in exocrine glands, mucosal surfaces and joints. With an inter-disciplinary approachwe encompass both clinical and biomedical laboratory expertise. For this purpose, we haveestablished a broad methodological application including exploration of the relevant immunology, molecular biology, functional genetics, immunopathology, cell biology and in vitro activity. In the last ten to fifteen years there has been major advancement in these fields and wherein thegenetic foundation for many chronic diseases is on the verge of discovery within the next decade. Inthis context, the genotypic-phenotypic links are to be explored and clarified. In addition, the nature ofthe projects in form of prospective and molecular/genetic studies over many years also includesclinical studies providing a guarantee for long-term activity. Prospective clinical studies are importantfor making it possible to evaluate the role of pathogenic mechanisms in diagnosis, prognosis anddisease development. The composition of our research group reflects stability and commitment, bothrelated to age and long term employment. In conclusion, the research activity, the research training and the skills of methods are main elementsand illustrate a local operative network at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Bergen with impactboth nationally and internationally.Scientific profile/keywords: Autoimmunity/chronic inflammation; clinical immunology; molecularmedicine; functional genomics; mucosal immunity; immunopathology.9 vitenskapelige artikler er publisert i 2006:Jonsson MV, Delaleu N, Brokstad KA, Berggreen E, Skarstein K"Impaired salivary gland function in NOD mice: association with changes in cytokineprofile but not with histopathologic changes in the salivary gland."Arthritis Rheum. 2006;54(7):2300-5PMID: 16802370Szodoray P, Jonsson R, Brun JG, Zeher M"Polymyalgia rheumatica in primary Sjögren's syndrome."Rheumatol Int. 2006;26(5):401-3PMID: 15988601Vogelsang P, Jonsson MV, Dalvin ST, Appel S"Role of dendritic cells in Sjögren's syndrome."Scand J Immunol. 2006;64(3):219-26PMID: 16918690Holen E, Bjørge OA, Jonsson R"Dietary nucleotides and human immune cells.
