FERDINAND MARESCH (1854-1940)
Ferdinand, syn Johanna Maresche, zakladatele ústecké továrny
na siderolitovou keramiku, absolvoval živnostenskou školu v
Ústí a odbornou školu v Drážďanech. Pokračoval v profesi
svého otce a v roce 1873 převzal jeho továrnu; rodinnou firmu
proslavili mimo jiné i trpaslíci. Velké zkušenosti v oboru keramiky
a porcelánu získal Ferdinand v roce 1877 při studijní cestě
do Bruselu.
V letech 1890-1919 byl členem městské rady a měl na starosti
komunální finance. Z Mareschovy iniciativy město v roce 1893
výhodně zakoupilo lesy na labských stráních mezi Větruší a
Chvalovem a v roce 1898 rozsáhlé pozemky na Klíši určené pro
výstavbu vilového sídliště. Ferdinand stál rovněž u zavedení
tramvajové dopravy ve městě a zřízení železniční vlečky do
předlické průmyslové oblasti. Velmi se zasloužil o rozvoj ústeckého
školství a kultury, v letech 1924-1934 byl předsedou ústecké
Muzejní společnosti. Poté, co byl v roce 1903 zvolen za libereckou
Obchodní komoru poslancem zemského sněmu, se
angažoval i v zemské politice, kde prosadil regulaci toku Labe
mezi Štětím a Ústím nad Labem.

Ferdinand, the son of Johann Maresch, founder of the Ústí factory
producing siderolite ceramics, completed the School of
Trade in Ústí and the Vocational College in Dresden. He followed
in the footsteps of his father and in 1873, he took over his
factory. Apart from others, the family business also became
famous for producing gnomes. Ferdinand gained great expertise
in ceramics and porcelain on his study trip to Brussels in
1877 .
Between 1890 and 1919, he was a member of the City Council
and was in charge of municipal finances. Thanks to his initiative,
the town purchased forests on the slopes of the River
Labe valley between Větruše and Chvalov at a very good price
in 1893, and in 1898, a large piece of land on Klíše with the
objective of building a villa neighbourhood. Ferdinand also initiated
the introduction of tramway transport in the town and
the establishment of a railway siding to the Předlice industrial
area. He was also decisive in developing Ústí education and
culture, and between 1924 and 1934, he was the chairman of
the town Museum Association. After he was elected member
of parliament for the Liberec Chamber of Commerce in 1903,
he was engaged in national politics, where he enforced the
regulation of the River Labe stream between Štětí and Ústí nad
Labem.
