(the Sassafras Point, AhGx-3, and Princess Point,<br />

AhGx-1 sites).<br />

The ravine sites at Cootes Paradise, such as those<br />

reported earlier at Bull’s Point (AhGx-9) and Bull’s<br />

Cove (AhGx-365), are unique to southern Ontario, but<br />

not unique to the wetland. An additional ravine location<br />

yielding cord-wrapped stick-decorated pottery<br />

(the Andrea site) was discovered in 1998 at Arnott’s<br />

Point on the south shore of the marsh. In addition are<br />

numerous other yet to be surveyed ravines that are<br />

potential locations for small Princess Point sites.<br />

The Sassafras Point site was the focus of research in<br />

1997 and 1998. This site is situated toward the tip of a<br />

promontory on the south shore of the marsh. Although<br />

Late Archaic, Princess Point and Middle Ontario<br />

Iroquoian components are recognized at the site, the<br />

deposits are not stratified and the Middle Ontario<br />

Iroquoian component completely covers the earlier<br />

two. The Princess Point component is located on a<br />
