b. Personnel E-4 through E-9 (petty officers)<br />

(1) Wear rating badges, which consist of three parts:<br />

(a) Perched eagle with wings extended.<br />

(b) Specialty mark indicating the wearer’s rating.<br />

(c) V-shaped chevron(s), rocker, and star(s) to indicate<br />

the wearer’s pay grade.<br />

(2) <strong>The</strong> color of the background of the rating badge matches the<br />

color of the uniform worn.<br />

(a) On navy blue uniforms, personnel with less than 12<br />

years service wear red chevrons with a white eagle and<br />

specialty mark. Personnel who have 12 consecutive<br />

years of good conduct wear gold chevrons with a silver<br />

eagle and specialty mark.<br />

(b) On white uniforms, the eagle, specialty mark, and<br />

chevrons are dark blue.<br />

(3) Rating badges are positioned the same way as group rate<br />

marks and are worn on the following uniforms:<br />

(a) Service dress white and service dress blue jumpers<br />

(PO3 through PO1)<br />

(b) Service dress blue coat (females PO3 and above and<br />

males CPO and above)<br />

(c) Pea coat (PO3 through PO1)<br />

(4) Chevron(s), rocker, and star(s) indicate the wearer’s rate.<br />

(a) Petty Officer Third Class (PO3): one chevron.<br />

(b) Petty Officer Second Class (PO2): two chevrons.<br />

(c) Petty Officer First Class (PO1): three chevrons.<br />

(d) Chief Petty Officer (CPO): three chevrons and one<br />

rocker.<br />

(e) Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO): three chevrons and<br />

one rocker with a silver star above the eagle.<br />

(f) Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO): three chevrons and<br />

one rocker with two silver stars above the eagle.<br />

1 <strong>Command</strong> Master Chief (CMC) wears three chevrons<br />

and one rocker with two silver stars above the<br />

eagle and a single silver star in place of the<br />

specialty mark.<br />
