d. Headgear insignia<br />

(1) Officer crest<br />

(a) A Silver federal shield over two crossed, gold, fouled<br />

anchors surmounted by a silver eagle.<br />

(b) Worn by commissioned officers and warrant officers.<br />

(2) Fretting--Gold embroidering on the cap visor or headband.<br />

Commonly referred to as “Scrambled Eggs.”<br />

e. Headgear types<br />

(1) Male<br />

(a) Ensign through Lieutenant <strong>Command</strong>er headgear has no<br />

fretting.<br />

(b) <strong>Command</strong>er and Captain wear partial fretting (one row<br />

of gold oak leaves and acorns).<br />

(c) Flag officers, Rear Admiral (Lower Half) through<br />

Admiral, wear full fretting (two rows of gold oak<br />

leaves and acorns).<br />

(a) Combination cap<br />

1 Gold chinstrap.<br />

2 Comes with detachable covers in white, khaki, and<br />

green.<br />

(b) Garrison cap<br />

1 Comes in black, khaki, and green.<br />

2 Miniature officer’s crest worn on the left side.<br />

3 Rank insignia worn on the right side. (Only<br />

officers wear insignia on the right side of the<br />

garrison cap.)<br />
