GENERAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES AND FIRE PARTY ORGANIZATION<br />

Since everyone aboard ship is a potential firefighter, it is essential that<br />

all personnel know the procedures to report a fire, the procedures to follow<br />

when a fire alarm is sounded, and their roles when fighting the fire. When<br />

your ship is afire, you are fighting for the lives of yourself, your<br />

shipmates, and the existence of your ship.<br />

B. Enabling Objective(s):<br />

16.17 Explain the procedures to follow when discovering a shipboard fire.<br />

16.18 Explain the methods of sounding the alarm for a fire aboard ship.<br />

16.19 Explain the procedures for responding to a shipboard fire alarm.<br />

16.20 Identify the duties/responsibilities of fire party personnel.<br />

16.21 Identify the purpose of the Naval Firefighter's <strong>The</strong>rmal Imager (NFTI)<br />

and its components.<br />

16.22 Explain fire party procedures for extinguishing a fire.<br />

22.8 Explain the relationship between teamwork and a fire party<br />

extinguishing a fire.<br />

1. Introduction<br />

2. Procedures to Follow when Discovering a Shipboard Fire<br />

a. Report the fire, by the fastest means, such as messenger or<br />

sound-powered telephone, to the OOD.<br />

b. Give the following information:<br />

(1) ____________ of casualty--What class of fire; e.g., color<br />

of smoke and location.<br />

(2) ____________ of casualty by compartment number and noun<br />

name; e.g., 2-90-1-L, mess deck.<br />

(3) Your ____________, rate/rank, and telephone number.<br />

c. If the fire is small (e.g., fire in trashcan), attempt to<br />
