(d) Line captain orders:<br />

1 Ship line handlers to “Pay out line #.”<br />

2 Pier line handlers to “Heave around on line #.”<br />

Pier line handlers heave around.<br />

(e) When enough line is out to the pier, line captain<br />

orders ship line handlers, “Avast paying out.”<br />

(f) Pier line handlers place the eye of the mooring line<br />

over the bollard.<br />

(g) Shift colors when first mooring line is over bollard.<br />

(h) Line captain orders ship line handlers, "Put a round<br />

turn clockwise on the bitt closest to the chock."<br />

When completed and hands are clear of bitts, "Heave<br />

around line #." (Repeat until line is tight.)<br />

(i) Line captain orders ship line handlers, "Put four<br />

figure eights on the bitts."<br />

(j) Line captain makes report to the POIC, “Line # singled<br />

up.”<br />

(k) Automatically prepare to double up by placing second<br />

eye of line through chock; make up second heaving line<br />

and attach to eye using bowline.<br />

(5) Double up all lines.<br />

(a) Order received through sound-powered phones, given to<br />

POIC, and relayed to line captain. Line captain<br />

acknowledges order.<br />

(b) Line captain gives command to line handler, “Heave<br />

line to pier.”<br />

(c) Ship line handler that is heaving the line:<br />

1 Warns, “Heads up on deck. Heads up on pier.<br />

One-thousand-one, one-thousand-two, one-thousandthree.”<br />

2 Heaves the line to the pier.<br />

(d) Line captain orders ship line handlers to “Pay out<br />

line #.”<br />

(e) Pier line handlers will heave around on line #.<br />

(f) When enough line is out to the pier, line captain<br />

orders ship line handlers, “Avast paying out.”<br />
