(a) For men, NOT authorized:<br />

1 When in uniform.<br />

2 In civilian attire when in a duty status; aboard<br />

any ship, craft, or aircraft; in a military<br />

vehicle, or other place under military<br />

jurisdiction.<br />

3 While participating in any organized military<br />

recreational activity.<br />

4 When prohibited by prescribing authority while in<br />

foreign countries. (Prescribing authority is a<br />

person in command of a geographical area;<br />

responsible for issuing policy for wearing <strong>Navy</strong><br />

uniforms.)<br />

(b) For women:<br />

1 One earring per ear (centered on the earlobe) may<br />

be worn while in uniform.<br />

2 Earrings shall be silver 4-6mm (1/8”-1/4”) ball.<br />

a Plain with brushed matte or gold finish.<br />

b Screw-on or with posts.<br />

g. NO articles, other than earrings for women, shall be attached<br />

through a body part.<br />

h. Having one’s body pierced is NOT authorized:<br />

(1) While in uniform.<br />

(2) When in civilian attire while on duty, aboard a ship,<br />

craft, aircraft, or in a military vehicle.<br />

(3) Within any base or other place under military jurisdiction.<br />

(4) While participating in any organized military recreational<br />

activities.<br />

i. Intentional body mutilation, piercing, branding, scarring that is<br />

excessive or eccentric is prohibited.<br />

(1) For example:<br />

(a) Split or forked tongue.<br />

(b) Foreign objects inserted under the skin to create a<br />

design or pattern.<br />
