(a) Muscle pain and spasm due to exertion involving<br />

abdominal or leg muscles.<br />

(b) Hot, sweaty skin and normal body temperature.<br />

(3) Treatment<br />

b. Heat exhaustion<br />

(a) Move person to cool area.<br />

(b) Give victim one-half a glass of cool water every 15<br />

minutes.<br />

(c) Moist towels to forehead.<br />

(d) Massage cramping muscles.<br />

(e) Transport person to nearest medical facility as soon<br />

as possible.<br />

(1) Causes<br />

(a) Working or exercising in a hot environment.<br />

(b) <strong>The</strong> body loses large amounts of salt and fluids.<br />

(c) Heat cramps could lead to heat exhaustion.<br />

(2) Symptoms<br />

(a) Nausea, headache, or dizziness.<br />

(b) Heavy sweating.<br />

(c) Cool, pale, and moist skin.<br />

(d) Normal or below normal body temperature.<br />

(e) Possible cramps or muscle aches due to loss of salt.<br />

(f) Pupils dilated.<br />

(3) Treatment<br />

(a) Move person to cool area.<br />

(b) Loosen clothing.<br />

(c) Apply wet cloths to head, armpits, and ankles.<br />

(d) Do not allow person to become chilled.<br />
