d. Magazine tube--Shotgun shells are loaded into this tube for<br />

storage until ready for use. (Holds 5 Rounds).<br />

e. Trigger--When squeezed fires the weapon.<br />

f. Trigger guard--Protects the trigger to prevent unintentional<br />

firing.<br />

g. Receiver--<strong>The</strong> body of the shotgun that holds the bolt and the<br />

slide.<br />

h. Safety button--When to the REAR “ON” position prevents the weapon<br />

from firing. When in the FORWARD “OFF” position allows the<br />

weapon to fire.<br />

i. Slide action assembly--Used to chamber and eject the shell.<br />

j. Action lock lever–-When the weapon is cocked the slide action<br />

locks in the forward position.<br />

k. Ejection port--Opening through which expended ammunition<br />

cartridges are ejected.<br />

l. Clear and Safe.<br />

11. 12-Gauge Shotgun Shooting Stances<br />

a. Standing ready<br />

(1) Ensure you are facing your target.<br />

(2) <strong>The</strong> Line Coach will instruct you to half-right face if you<br />

are right-handed; half-left face if you are left-handed,<br />

then hand you a shotgun.<br />

(3) Stand with body erect and balanced.<br />

(4) Hold the weapon at waist level. Place your:<br />

(a) Forward “weak” non-firing hand on the underneath<br />

portion of the slide action.<br />

(b) Rear “strong” firing hand on the butt stock, just aft<br />

of the receiver.<br />

b. Standing (Shoulder Firing Stance)<br />

(1) Place the butt stock into your “strong” shoulder.<br />

(2) Place your “strong” arm parallel with the deck forming a<br />

pocket in the shoulder.<br />

(3) Pull weapon tightly into the pocket by the “strong” hand on<br />

the grip of the butt stock.<br />
