a. Equal Opportunity (EO)--<strong>The</strong> right of all persons to participate<br />

in and benefit from programs and activities for which they are<br />

qualified.<br />

b. _________________—An attitude, usually negative, about a group of<br />

people that is not based on fact.<br />

c. Discrimination—- Action based on one’s prejudice; i.e., behavior<br />

that denies a person equal opportunity.<br />

d. Sexual Harassment: UNWELCOME sexual behavior directed toward<br />

someone.<br />

(1) A form of discrimination.<br />

(2) <strong>The</strong> behavior could be between members of the opposite or<br />

same gender and involves UNWELCOME:<br />

(a) Sexual advances.<br />

(b) Requests for sexual favors.<br />

(c) Other verbal or physical sexual behavior.<br />

(3) To be sexual harassment, the behavior must occur in the<br />

work environment.<br />

e. Work environment–-<strong>The</strong> workplace or a work-connected place.<br />

Examples include:<br />

(1) Offices<br />

(2) Buildings<br />

(3) Department of Defense installations<br />

(4) Department of Defense ships, aircraft, or vehicles.<br />

(5) Anywhere--When engaged in official business<br />

(6) <strong>Command</strong> sponsored social, recreational, or sporting events<br />

f. Complainant: A service member or civilian who submits<br />

allegations of discrimination or sexual harassment.<br />

g. Formal complaint--Allegation of assault or sexual harassment that<br />

is submitted in writing through the chain of command.<br />

h. Informal complaint-–Allegation of discrimination or sexual<br />

harassment that is made either in writing to the offending party<br />

or verbally, and is not submitted as a formal complaint.<br />
